Nick
Nick grew up as the son of a small business owner in small-town Iowa. He remembers learning how to run a company of one and watching it grow to a 10-employee company serving hundreds of clients. Nick watched his father spend countless hours learning how to handle his basic bookkeeping and growing his business while making sure he had enough money in the bank to make payroll.
Nick’s entrepreneurial spirit appeared early. While in high school he was always finding ways to make work for himself. From installing car stereos to selling duct tape roses (yes, really) for Valentine’s Day. Nick was still helping out at his dad’s shop on afternoons and weekends, becoming involved firsthand in the operations of a successful small business.
Nick went on to study accounting and business at Iowa State University while still helping his dad with the new knowledge he was getting in college. He graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
Nick graduated from the Lee School of Business at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2012 with a Master’s of Business Administration focused on Entrepreneurship and Finance. During his time in graduate school, he ran businesses in pool cleaning, property management, and real estate project management.
Over the past 18 years, he has worked in various industries including private equity, real estate brokerage, and land development. Over the past 10 years, he has been working with small businesses helping them grow on the side of his other career. Initially, his consulting services were helping friends with their real estate businesses and it became helping his wife grow her law firm. Realizing he was unhappy with the corporate path, he came back to his true passion of helping entrepreneurs run their businesses.
Knowing most small businesses can’t afford full-time staff with professional degrees, he opened The Back Office as a way to share his knowledge gained with other small business owners. He wants to take the burden of running a business off your shoulders and allow you to focus on what you do best, serving your customers.
Nick lives in San Diego, CA with his wife, who herself is a small business owner, and his three children.
